Safeguarding Policy
Our commitment
The welfare of children is the first priority at every Matico Football session. This policy sets out the standards every coach, staff member and volunteer is required to uphold.
Designated Safeguarding Lead
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Emeel Mati, FA Safeguarding Lead certified. The DSL is present at every camp and reachable for all weekly sessions.
To raise a safeguarding concern, contact the DSL directly: info@maticofootball.com with subject "Safeguarding".
Coach standards
- Every coach holds a current Enhanced DBS check, renewed annually
- Every coach holds the FA Safeguarding Children certificate
- Every coach holds Level 3 Paediatric First Aid
- Every coach is FA Level 2 minimum (Athletes Club coaches: FA Advanced Youth Award)
- Maximum 1:12 coach-to-player ratio
What we do
- Maintain a current DBS register, audited monthly
- Run safeguarding induction for every new coach
- Have a DSL on-site at every camp and on-call for every session
- Use a structured incident reporting process for any concern
- Train coaches in inclusive practice, mental wellbeing and recognising abuse
What we ask of parents
- Tell us anything we should know about your child's needs at booking
- Use the parent contact channel, not your child, to raise concerns
- Pick up on time at the agreed point with the agreed adult
Reporting a concern
If you have a concern about your child's safety or wellbeing at Matico, raise it directly with the DSL via the email above. We aim to acknowledge within 24 hours and respond fully within 5 working days.
For concerns that need immediate action outside our remit, contact the NSPCC Helpline (0808 800 5000) or your local Children's Social Care.
